Using your NDIS plan

What should an NDIS service agreement cover?

A service agreement sets out what you'll get, what it costs and what happens if things change. Here's what a good one covers.

Last checked against ndis.gov.au: 2 October 2026. The NDIA is updating its website for new legislation, so details may change.

In short

  • Service agreements are strongly recommended, and required for some supports.
  • A good agreement is written in plain language and agreed before support starts.
  • You can ask questions, ask for changes and take time to read it.

What to look for

  • The supports you'll receive, and how and when they'll be delivered
  • The price of each support, and how travel is charged
  • How the provider will claim or invoice, depending on how your plan is managed
  • What happens if you or the provider cancel
  • How to change the agreement or end it, and the notice needed
  • How to give feedback or make a complaint
  • What both of you are responsible for

When it's required

Service agreements are recommended for all supports and are required for some, including supported independent living and Specialist Disability Accommodation.
